Jason Rodriquez is Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts at Boston. He is originally from Staten Island, NY.

Great book--strongly recommended for sociologists studying work or medicine. I was impressed not just by the empirical analysis, but by the author's ability to dig a little deeper into debates around, say, emotional labor. The main question in the book is how different for-profit and non-profit nursing homes are (spoiler: not so different). But Rodriquez also shows that the efforts of the for-profit home to take in higher-paying medicare patients does lead the two homes on different trajectories.Also recommended for medical professionals or even those curious about the industry. But beware that it is a book written for sociologists, so there will be some discussions that may be boring if you're not in the field. However, aside from those moments it is a very interesting read.
