Originally, I assumed Reframe Your Viewpoints was going to be another of those self-help books that you speed read, feel inspired for a few days, and never open again. Boy, was I mistaken! Turns out it's a well written, scholarly book with meaty exercises and lots of examples to add interest and clarity. This one is going to stay downloaded on my Kindle so I can refer to it often and apply the very useful reframing techniques.My favorites were "Chapter 9: Reframing—How Do You Get Some?" and "Chapter 10: The Nitty-Gritty of Reframing Techniques." Chapter 9 features an account of the author's cancer diagnosis and treatment with examples of how she applied her favorite variation of reframing (and mine)—The Back-Door Approach. The Spa Reframing Technique was the highlight of Chapter 10 for me. Simple and effective, and there are many more.Every chapter contains valuable information, AND the reader receives free extras (an SPA reframing template and exercises included in the Supplemental Information and Workbook Packet). I highly recommend this book!
This wonderful book is the perfect read on how to deal with stress, anxiety and negativity. It provides its readers a different way of reacting to anxiety and difficult situations through the process of reframing. We have our usual pattern with how we react to challenging situation but through the reframing process we change how we see the circumstances that give us anxiety. The author teaches the seven varieties of reframing and the eight building blocks necessary to strengthen the reframing technique to experience peace, self – confidence and to banish stress.My favorite reframing method is ‘Give it to God re- framing part’ for faith based readers which entails surrendering to God’s plan. With this reframing method we change our focus from the tension and worries and we instead through prayers tell God our concerns and we ask him to help us. With God with us we don’t need to feel agitated or stress out because God is control. He always thinks what’s best for us.
The only things we honestly have control over in our life is what we think and how we behave. In Reframe Your Viewpoints, Virginia Ritterbush enables the reader to overcome anxiety and negative thinking through a process psychologists call reframing. The title of this book – truly delivers what it says. This book walks us through learning about ourselves, and provides a tool kit to turn our daily stress and anxiety into something that can serve us… using simple steps. From the beginning of the book, the author provides personal stories that we can all relate to. I especially like that different strategies are presented and can be used independently or together. It’s not necessary to carve out time of an already stressful day to start practicing the strategies. They can be done while doing the dishes or driving the car, or while your boss is yelling at you. Practical and effective!Excellent backup reference materials, love the science presented behind ‘reframing’. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to take control of their stress and learn how to use it to gain confidence… and a state of peace.My favorite paragraph: 'When you learn about yourself, you begin to appreciate how you have survived this far and understand with compassion what has influenced your development. When you learn about yourself, you can begin to appreciate the wonderfully unique individual you are. Only then can you admire the strengths that you have developed.'Well written!
My type A overachieving self has been struggling with anxiety and stress for a while. This book gave me so many aha moments as to why that is and gave very specific tools to understand what was causing the anxiety and what to do. I've already started using some of these with great results! Still have a ways to go, but this book opened my eyes to a better life. I've read many self help books, and this isn't another one with generalized "think positive" mantras that have no actionable substance. This book is the real deal with tons of research, stories, and step by step reframing techniques for actual situations (many of which the average person has actually experienced!) to stop stress and anxiety. Can't recommend highly enough!
I am so happy to have found this book! It is more than a book, it is a never-fading resource of personal development. I applaud the author and am deeply grateful for her extensive research. There are many books out there on this subject, but this is written by someone that truly cares! While reading, I could sense the author's involvement and honest need to help others; many times to the point of actually imagining myself talking to a good friend. The practical advice in this book is priceless. The quotes make you experience an ah-ha moment. The extensive research is very much appreciated. A most valued work indeed!
