This book is written to women who have aborted, but I also found it very relevant to someone processing and grieving through loss as a birthparent. Kim is very honest in the reasons she opted for abortion and she is equally honest in how all those reasons unraveled after the abortion. She very lovingly handles the issues of guilt, shame, self-revulsion, questioning God, how it effected other pregnancies, marriage. There is no condemnation in her words, just encouragement to work through the pain and that God does not reject you either. The book is especially helpful if are a Christian, or maybe were and just can't get past the abortion. I have found secular books very hollow on how to overcome "taboo" loss through abortion or adoption--they are great at pointing out the psychological challenges, but they have shallow "solutions" for coping or healing. This book is authentic and spiritually healing!
This book was helpful in going through the steps of seeking healing after abortion.
Wonderfully inspiring book. Well written and easy to understand. The author uses her own experience to help cope with the pain and aftermath of an abortion. Would absolutely recommend.
This book is truely heartfelt. Anyone reading this book will feel no condemnation, only love and forgiveness. This book gives personal testimony and practical steps to help the reader understand God's grace and his amazing love. I would recommend this book to anyone who is searching for truth and healing.
Kim Ketola addresses women who've made the impossible decision to abort a child. The book first asks if the reader is searching their hearts and minds trying to heal. The end of the introduction is heartening to readers. She reminds us that we can entrust our hearts to Jesus; we can't "hide" our thoughts or faults from Him. Quoting John 6:37 and Heb 13:5, she comforts us with words showing God's eternal care for those who turn to Him.Ketola offers 3 "tools" at chapter ends to help the healing process - reflection on Bible passages, prayerful requests, and ways to respond using exercises and steps that aid in spiritual growth.Although I haven't experienced the pain of abortion, I knew girls who did. The ones that spoke about it to me were ashamed, heartbroken, and grieving. I think that this book would have helped them. Although I cannot relate to the author's saying that the morality of the abortion did not enter into her thoughts at the time, she is bravely honest to report that she was primarily thinking of her career, her reputation etc... This book is about healing; there is no distraction with discussion of the abortion issue as political policy.Women who need to heal after grieving this impossible choice will benefit from Ketola's telling of others in similar situations, from support from God's Word, and from suggestions for healing.*Complimentary copy received for review, this does not affect my opinion in any way*
In my experience the American church holds two sins on unforgivable pedestals; abortion is one of them. Christians can forgive pedophiles, murderers, thieves, drug addicts, liars, men who beat their wives and public menaces to society. If you willfully kill your unborn child, however, you might as well have leprosy. Or keep the secret to yourself. This is not right and it is exactly why I am so excited about this book by Kim Ketola. It extends grace, and I love it.There is so much in this book, offered by someone who knows. The book is written directly to women affected by abortion. It is heavy-handedly Christian, so don't be shocked by the abundance of Bible references and dependence upon God and His truths. The purpose of this book is to offer a path toward spiritual healing. That purpose requires much credit and mention of God.With vulnerable glimpses into her own experiences, the author tackles the issues of blame, guilt and relational reconciliation (both to the other people involved and to faith). She talks about Heaven and mourning the lost child. She discusses cultural inconsistencies that circle the definition of life. The text overflows with compassion and understanding. It's peppered with Scripture and solid doctrine. The back of the book provides loads of extra resources and reading suggestions. In its entirety, this book offers a path to renewed wholeness, all made possible by the immeasurable love of our God and Savior.I would love to get the book into the hands of all those who need it.
