While some of the advice was sound, the book -- for its size -- was waaaaaay overpriced. Either the price needs to be adjusted, or the content needs to be improved. Bottom line: Would I do it over again? Answer: Nope.

When my husband approached me about selling on ebay I felt very skeptical because of the shipping aspect. Reading this book has helped me realize that while this is a very important and large part of selling it can be manageable as long as your are organized and have a plan.

This is a helpful book! You will never mind "The Perfect Wedding Planner" for a destination wedding. Every destination is completely different. I found getting this and "The Knot Wedding Planner" to be helpful together. I ended making my own spreadsheets with timelines, budgets... etc. on Excel. If you are planning a destination wedding, get this book and read it with your fiance, it's fun!! :)

This book is an excellent expression of "liberal Islam", a view of the Muslim religion that is essentially democratic, tolerant, and compatible with most other values cherished in the West. Bhutto points out that democracy (or the desire for it) is a more universal desire, not owned by either East or West. Her tolerant, hopeful expression is a most welcome and refreshing change from the predominantly negative image of radical Islamism. Bhutto points out that the radicals have subverted and perverted the mainstream Muslim view, and offers arguments from the Quran and from modern scholarly research to show that Islam can thrive in a modern, democratic world, if Muslims make the right choices and the West helps (rather than thwarts) those efforts. She convincingly confronts and refutes the "Clash of Civilization" hypothesis of Samuel Hunting, and offers a more positive track towards reconciliation. Her argument about women's equality dodges a few critical verses of the Quran, but overall her view is compelling and engaging. It is a great tragedy for all that her voice was silenced by radicals, but as the afterword indicates her hope and vision still lives on in the hearts of others. I strongly recommend this book. (and incidentally, the other reviewer's claim that her father was the corrupt architect of two wars is patently false. Her father was not in office when those wars were fought. Yahya Khan was still in power during the Bangladesh separation, how can Zulfikar be blamed? Zulfikar was put to death by Zia al-Haq. Apparently some have no command of historical facts.)

As our nation continues to become engaged in the unending conflicts of Muslim countries, this book presents some hope that these conflicts are not totally a bottomless pit. There are hundreds of millions of moderate-thinking Muslims. But it only takes the 5% lunatic fringe to push us toward a possible nuclear disaster. Benazir Bhutto was one of the few moderates who had the guts to speak out against these radicals. But they also silenced her by assassination, which is their traditional method of pushing their extreme agenda.

What an amazing story. Benazir Bhutto lived a life unlike anything most Americans could imagine. But this is not just about her life. She explains so much about Islam, democracy, and the West. Her insight is eye opening and optimistic. The sad thing is that she was assassinated before she could do more to further the cause of reconciliation between Islamic cultures and Western cultures. Read this if you have any interest in understanding what is going on in Islamic cultures and how it all relates to cultures that you are probably more familiar with. Truly fascinating.

...offers her take on Islam, democracy, and Pakistan. It is amazing that a true intellectual could have been so successful as a politician. I learned a lot from this book. She offers an interesting take on Islam and the Quran, on the prospects for democracy in the Middle East, on the history of Pakistan, and on international relations. I say "an interesting take" because one gets the feeling that there are other sides to many of the positions she sets out--especially concerning interpretation of the Quran, and Pakistani history. One can't help but be impressed by how well-reasoned and well-supported her positions are. Her optimiism about the future of Islam and democracy seems deeply dependent on her rationalistic approach to these issues. She repeatedly claims that democracy is the best defense against extremism. But Bush's notion of allowing democracy is to create safe space for it to develop (thus, the build-up in Iraq), whereas she is quite clear that it takes considerable civic development, which will not grow overnight. The difficulty of getting others to take this same approach was painfully shown by her recent and tragic assassination. What a loss!

The author's message is that the way to defeat terrorism in the Middle East is through support of education and, until the populace is educated, welfare as well. She dismisses the West's policy of defining how other culture's should govern themselves as woefully dysfunctional and certain to fail in both the short and long run. An Ivy League graduate, her message is convincing.

This book that she finished days before she was killed, quotes the Koran to show that Islam is an open, pluralistic, and tolerant relgion. It has been hijacked by extremists like Osama bin Laden who "exploit, manipulate and militarize Isalm." More importantly she argues that Islam and the West do not need to be headed on a collision course toward a "clash of civilizations." People of the region do want democracy, yet the United State's role in helping to overthrow the democratically elected government of Iran in 1953, and many other short-sighted interventions, made generations of Muslims suspicious and cynical about Western motivations. However, she doesn't place all the blame on the legacy of Western colonialization in the Middle East. She asks Islam to heal the Shia-Sunni schism, encourage and provide support for emerging democracies, and get the religious extremists out of power.

Enlighten yourself. With each passing day this book becomes more and more timely and prescient. Should be required reading for all media and government employees the world over. Also should be required reading for all highschool history students.

This is a great travel guide, but I can't give it five stars just because it has very few pictures - just a couple in the front and a couple in the back. I don't need fancy pictures, but I'm usually very grateful even if there are some small black and white pics throughout the book just to give you an idea what you're looking at. Pics also help you to browse and get excited about a book before a trip.Despite that, this book is still one of the better ones available. It manages to have that smaller publisher feel, where you believe that you're reading someone's memoirs rather than a templated travel guide. The author states her experience at- or subjective impression of- a place sometimes - and although your experience may differ - mine has been dead on with hers most of the time. And the writing managed to get me pretty psyched up when I finally started reading it anyway (although I did wait until I got on the plane).I also appreciate that it has a lot of smaller, more oddball type sites listed, which is great for someone like me who wants to stay off the tourist trail and who also has a lot of time to kill - all the better if I have some archaeological site or hiking trail to find on my day off.There are some small maps of some sites included that are pretty decent, and there is a few pages of map in the back that is not perfectly accurate as to placement of sites, but gives you a pretty good idea of where everything is, and it's nice to have. It's definitely not suitable for driving, though....Speaking of which, there is no single romanisation method for Arabic, so when you can't match her terms up with something in your nav system or something you see another place, it's not her fault. This can still be tricky, so keep it in mind.I also like the size, weight, and hard cover.As is often the case, I'm definitely glad I gave this guide a chance over the mega-producers of guides out there. I'll be spending a lot more time in Jordan, and I'm in no rush to get another guide, even as a supplement.

I was a little nervous that the book would be too heavy to take with me since I travel very light, but even though it's hard cover, it was small and light. It had very detailed and helpful information, telling about all the things that seem minor but can have a big effect on how much you enjoy each day. I didn't actually use it very much for planning since I had a driver, but it was a lot of fun to read to learn about the places we were seeing.

This was a business trip to Jordan so much of my itinerary was already planned but I loved reading about Jordan before we departed. My first encounter with Footprint guides and I'll definitely seek them out for future international travel, thank you!

Excellent book about traveling to Jordan. Very detailed descriptions, clear maps and great layout of material. Very excited about our upcoming trip after reading this book.
