I ordered this book based strictly upon the synopsis provided by its product page on Amazon. It sounded like an intriguing and highly original work and was fairly presented in that regard. The narrator, Veronika, is one of four "girls" that inhabit a remote island with two adults (Robbert and Irene) that act as their caretakers and instructors. The girls are identical in every respect except hair color. They live a highly regimented life, constantly instructed by their caretakers with a focus on perception and awareness of surroundings. We know from the start that we are dealing with a very unusual situation, as the author drops little hints that eventually lead us to an understanding of the nature of the girls and their relationship with Robbert and Irene. The story increases in complexity with the arrival of a shipwreck victim, a girl named May, who is quite different from the other girls. The interaction between May and Veronika and the intervention (both anticipated and realized) of the outside world form the basis of the remainder of the work. This novella is easily read in about three hours. While it is highly unusual, and maintained my interest, I must say that for long stretches of the story, very little if anything happens. Much time is spent describing and analyzing very mundane situations and natural occurrences as seen through innocent and naïve eyes. Were this story much longer, it would soon become quite boring and pedantic. I have seen the book described as a great "middle" in search of a beginning and end, and I cannot disagree. Perhaps a prequel and sequel are on the horizon. If so, I'm not sure I'm a customer.

I loved this book. I should say first off, I'm an adult reader, a novelist myself (have published a couple YA books as well as two more clearly directed at an adult readership). This novel is subtle and complex, more like Kazuo Ishiguro's NEVER LET ME GO than like THE HUNGER GAMES - I think some of the negative reviews here have to do with thwarted expectations. Beautifully written, haunting, memorable - it reminded me a little of John Christopher's novels, which I loved as a child. Highly recommended.

I really enjoy Dahlquist and this latest book is no exception. It was an easy read and very cleverly thought out. The characters were real enough to be likeable and the plot, although it appears on the surface to be shallow, is actually pretty thought provoking and give just enough of a hint of deeper meaning to make you think about it long after the last page is complete. Although I don't think one is forthcoming, I would love to see a sequel for this.

Reading about how the girls thought and learned was fun and really made me think. I definitely recommend buying it. I tried the free demo and was hooked.

No real development or story and climax or drama.. I forced myself to finish it but hands down the worst book I've ever read.

The Different Girl is well different. I'm not a big fan of sci fi, but the premise of this book really intrigued me. The first 50 pages of the book are a bit difficult to get through, but that's because you are given a look into the day in and day out life of the characters in the story. The Different Girl centers around four identical androids who have different colored hair to differentiate between them. They are looked after by their caretakers Robbert and Irene. The androids are Veronika, Caroline, Isobel, and Eleanor. The story is told from Veronika's point of view. And I must say it is interesting to read a book from an android's point of view. Especially when the android believes that they are human, and their lives are normal. Now unfortunately for the reader, we never find out what the purpose of the androids were. We never find out why or even how they were created. This was a major letdown. This book is probably not really for your average young adult reader, and I'm not even sure it's for your average sci fi fan. There is a mix between sci fi and contemporary, and personally I don't think it worked out very well for this novel. I think that it gives a good message about friendship, and accepting people for their differences. My favorite part of the book was Veronika's interactions with May. May is a human girl who found herself on the island that the androids were on after her ship was wrecked. May's reactions to the androids were probably what your average person's would be. First there was fear, then anger, then a mild curiosity, and finally acceptance. It was very entertaining to see her relationship with Veronika evolve.I think I can see what the author was trying to do with the story because there were elements of mystery, and there was a build up. What really kept me going was the story seemed to be leading up to this big reveal, to find out exactly what was going on with the androids. But unfortunately there was nothing. I was left with more questions than answers.Reviewed by Sana @ Step Into Ficion

#145,095 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Wow! What a way to wrap up a series! Ms. Logan has done it again. This installment starts off with a bang and the roller-coaster keeps you turning pages until the very end! This is Adael and Race's story (I've been eagerly waiting for Adael's story!) I don't re-hash the story or give spoilers, so I'll suffice it to say that if you're a fan of the series and of Jarrett and Thayne, you don't want to miss out. I'm very happy with the tying up of loose ends and the epilogue was the cherry on top! I'm also thrilled that even though this series is done (but knowing Ms. Logan, we will see these guys again!) that past characters seem to pop up in spin-off series.

Wow, I just love the Death & Destruction series and this is another great addition. A Mossad agent being framed for murder, asking help from the FBI and a missing artifact; As always plenty of action, intrigues and unexpected twist and turns. What I like most about this story are the amazing (and really hot!) characters and how they all interact. Patricia Logan brings them to live and I love them! Please, more books in this and the Thin Blue Line series! I can't wait to read the next one.

I highly recommend this book .. if it's your first .. you eagerly read the rest of the series. If it's your last book you will be so pleased & satisfied as all the characters are settled into their respective HEAS. Thank you Patricia for a wonderful concluding book!

I agree with everyone. I love that everyone found their HEA's. This was a great book and a special series that I have enjoyed thoroughly. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys action books. Will reread again and again.

I've read all of her Death and Destruction books!!! I was waiting for this one since #1!!!!!!. Adael is a great guy but trapped by responsibilities & his father...mostly his father. 👅👅👅👅 Parker is perfect for him!!!!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜 This book has everything, all of her books do!!!!!!!

** 4.55 stars **I enjoyed reading this book despite the lack of certain things I wanted it to have. It was a page-turner as always in terms of action and sarcastic humor but the ending was a little anticlimactic or I should say tamer than usual. And I wanted more for Race and Adael's budding relationship. Yes, I loved that they established trust and a special bond between them but it felt more like friendship rather than romance, and they jumped so quickly from that to love - I really wanted to see Adael's transformation and that moment when his views changed but it wasn't there unfortunately. This book didn't have much in terms of romance, it felt like tying up loose ends. I loved revisiting with all my favorite people and seeing how they have been getting on. That was a treat. I loved the investigation, a little bit of suspense and mystery involved. The epilogue was very cute and romantic especially for Thayne and Jarrett but with Adael and Race it felt unfinished. I feel like I need a bit more of Race and Adael! Overall, this has been a wonderful series and I really liked reading it. I highly recommend it!

This is the ninth book in The Death and Destruction Series. You will want to read the previous books in the series to completely enjoy this book. Another Fantastic book the writing was great. This is a book I wasn’t sure about reading because I wasn’t sure I would totally enjoy it because of one of the main characters. But I am really glad that I did read it because I did indeed enjoy it. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters captivating. The characters were well developed and thought out. Race and Adael are the MC’s of this book. Along with all the other characters from the series. There was humor, a cabin, murder, poison, betrayal, fake passports, police, ATF, FBI, Israel and so much more in this book. I can highly recommend this book and the series as a good read. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Race was intrigued by Adael but when he realized that he was only interested in Jarrett, he backed off and let his feelings die away. When Adael calls him because he’s in trouble, all the feelings bubble back to the surface. As they work to save Adael’s life, their feelings become mutual. The first time Race kissed Adael he felt like he had come home.I’ve had a soft spot for Adael since he first appeared in the series. I think he is well matched with Race. I wish there would of been a bit more to their relationship. I felt like it was kind of unfinished even though they got their happy ending.Thayne and Jarrett of course, are involved up to their eyeballs. They can’t seem to keep away from danger. Jarrett’s present to Thayne at the end of the book was such a sweet ending to their story.
